Transporters, Railway Confirm Take-Off of Tinubu’s Christmas Subsidized Transport, From Today

National Union of Transport Workers (NURTW)has announced the take-off the 50 per cent rebate on travel by buses announced by federal government between December 20, 2023, and January 4, 2024.

According to the yuletide subsidized transport fare approved by President Tinubu, those travelling by buses during the period would enjoy a 50 per cent reduction in fare.

For those who opt for train, they will board it for free.

Spokesman of the NURTW, Segun Fatade, told newsmen on Thursday night in Abuja, that the 50 per cent rebate was agreed upon by the union and other companies operating luxury buses.

Also, the Nigerian railway corporation asked passengers seeking to travel on trains during the period to obtain their free tickets on its online ticketing platform.

The corporation says the free tickets would not be issued at any of the train stations, adding that it would not allow any commuter to board the train without a ticket.

Solid Mineral Minister, Dele Alake who announced the package on Thursday said the subsidized inter-state transport deal would be available on more than 20 traffic corridors nationwide.

The roads among others, are Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Ibadan, Akure, Maiduguri, Sokoto, and other major routes.
