The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has directed polytechnics, mono-technics, and technical institutions to stop admitting candidates into computer science programs.

The board in a directive by its Executive Secretary, Idris Bugaje, to heads of the institutions, says they should stop admission into the HND computer science program from the 2024/2025 academic session.

Students already admitted will be allowed till 2025 when the program would be phased out.

He said that the computer science program has been replaced with new programs, including HND Network and Cloud Computing, and HND Artificial Intelligence.

Others are HND Software and Web Development and HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection.

Consequently, there will no longer be admissions into the HND COMPUTER SCIENCE program from the 2024/2025 academic session.

Students who have already been admitted into the former programs are given up to 2025 to phase out.

The grace period is to enable concerned institutions to graduate students who were admitted under the old curricula.

Given the above, you are requested to kindly note that admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session into the erstwhile HND Computer Science program will be only in the aforementioned four specialized areas.
