FG Spends 12 Billion Naira Monthly in Free School Feeding

The federal government says it is spending 12 billion naira monthly on its free school feeding programme under the national social investment programme.

The programme national cordinator, Umar Bindiri, made this known at a consultative workshop on developing of a national policy for the national home grown free school feeding programme in Abuja.

According to him, over 10 million pupils in primary schools are being fed at the rate of 100 naira per pupil under the programme.

He explains that the number of pupils benefiting from the free feeding may increase to 12 million within the next weeks or months.

The coordinator says the programme aims at attracting children to school and ensuring that the children of the poor and vulnerable attending school longer, stressing further that it is necessary that the programme be sustained.
