Ogun NNPP Counsel Handling Its Poll Petition, Says His Life In Danger

Crisis in the Ogun state chapter of New Nigerian Peoples Party ( NNPP ), is deepening, over its petition before the state polls petition tribunal, challenging the election of governor Dapo Abiodun in the March 18, 2023 governorship poll.

The lawyer, l. Izunya, engaged by a faction of the party to relist the petition,  said his life and those of his immediate family are in danger.

The counsel said his wife last june 13, escaped being strangled to death by a man who visited his house.

In a statement, the lawyer called on the inspector general of police; the state police commissioner;  and heads of other security agencies; to protect him and members of his family.

He said the threat that himself, and members of his family were receiving, was politically motivated, due to his ongoing handling of the petition,

which was earlier withdrawn from the tribunal, by a faction of the party.

A faction of the party, headed by the state chairman, Olaposi Oginni had earlier withdrawn the petition, filed by the party, to challenge the outcome of the poll, because its name and logo were not on the ballot papers used for the poll.

The party’s national working committee disagreed, and relisted the petition for hearing before the tribunal, despite being struck out at the request of the state executive committee, which originally filed the petition.

“On the 13th day of June, 2023 at about 3pm my wife was attacked and about to be strangled by an unknown man. The unknown tall dark in complexion man knocked on my door severally and knowing I was not around told my wife through the window when she did not open the door, that I sent money to her, my wife in reply told him that I didn’t inform her that I was sending someone with money and immediately the man left when my wife refused to open the door for him, not knowing he was still around the gate.

“When I arrived home from the office, I took her to Adigbe Police Station, Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she made an official complaint. The surprising thing is that before the attack on my wife, different persons have been asking for my identity in the area and also I personally noticed persons peeping around my gate”.
