Tinubu Suspends EFCC Chairman, Now In DSS Custody

President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abduraheed Bawa.

Tinubu directed him on Wednesday, to hand over to the agency’s director of operations, Mohammed Abba, pending the ongoing investigations into his office.

The Director of Information in the office of the secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, announced this in a statement issued last night.

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement read.

Bawa is now in the custody of Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, hours after he was suspended.

The presidency said his suspension was to allow the ongoing investigations of weighty allegations of abuse of office against him.

The suspension of the EFCC Chairman came, hours after his visit to president Tinubu on Wednesday.

Spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunaya later on Wednesday confirmed that the suspended EFCC Chairman was in their custody.

According to him, he was invited over investigative activities concerning him.
