Ladoja Says His Dream Is To Become Olubadan, Not Elevated Monarch

The Osi of Olubadan, High Chief Rasheed Ladoja, has stated his ambitions to wear the crown of the Olubadan of Ibadan land.

Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, says he is not interested in being a lesser monarch in Ibadan land.

Ladoja spoke on the issue while addressing newsmen on Wednesday at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Governor Seyi Makinde, recently elevated him and some other high chiefs to the status of beaded crown monarchs, and he is scheduled to install them on July 2.

But Ladoja told newsmen that he was not interested in the proposed beaded crown, saying it was not fair to elevate high chiefs to monarchs.

The former governor explained that he joined the Olubadan line to become the Olubadan, and not an elevated Oba.

The former governor, while addressing journalists, noted that it is not proper for someone who is a high chief and Olubadan-in-waiting to wear a crown, especially when such an individual is in the Olubadan succession line.

According to him: “You don’t mend what is not broken. I don’t think it is right to make high chiefs Obas. The only crown I want to wear is the Olubadan crown. Everybody knows that it is God who makes one an Oba. As far as I am concerned, it is not proper for high chiefs to wear crowns. My intention is to become Olubadan.”
