Wanted Cult Group Kingpin Shot Dead In Gun Duel with Police in Rivers

Police have shot dead a local leader of the Greenland Cult Gang, Silas Odereke, Alias General, in Rivers State.

He was shot dead along with one of his lieutenants, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

A police team moved against the gang leader who had been on the police wanted list for four years, while his gang was attacking a community-owned tank farm at Odereke in Ahoada West local government area.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said he resisted arrest and opened gunfire along with members of his gang on the police team.

Iringe-Okoko said the gang leader was wanted for armed robbery, land grabbing, unauthorized sale of buildings, and destruction of buildings in the area.

She listed items seized by the police team from the hideout of the gang as including a g3 rifle, and 19 ammunition as well as military camouflage and other weapons.

The affected communities expressed their relief and shared accounts of residents who had relocated to Port Harcourt due to the mayhem caused by the cult group.

Iringe-Koko further noted that following the feat, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has congratulated the officers for their exceptional work, adding that the CP has issued a stern warning to cultists in the state to either renounce cultism or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
