20 Killed in Boat Disaster in Rivers, Six Also Die in Oyo Auto Crash

At least 20 people are feared dead in the two fishing boats which capsized in Bonny River in Rivers state.

The accident occurred on Tuesday night, when the boats were conveying people and fishermen from NGO in the Andoni Local Government Area to Bonny Island.

The boats were struck by a heavy wave of water from the river, sinking both.

Andoni Local Government Chairman, Erastus Awortu in a statement said 20 people confirmed dead in the two capsized boats.

Sources said five infants were among those who lost their lives in the boat mishap.

Six persons have died in a ghastly auto crash along Ibadan-Oyo Highway in Oyo State.

Five others were injured in the crash involving a truck marked HJAB 92 BX, Amicra taxicab marked BDJ 496 YC and two motorcycles.

The state sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adekanye Oluwafemi, said the truck crashed into the taxicab.

The bodies of those killed, according to him, had been deposited at the Adeoyo Hospital, Ibadan, while those injured were taken to the University College Hospital, also in Ibadan.
