Students Give Ogun Deadline to Reverse New Tuition Fees Unveiled By Tertiary Intuitions

Ogun State Chapter of The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected the new tuition fees being unveiled by the state owned tertiary institutions for the 2023/2024 session.

The association on Thursday, issued a four day deadline to the state government to order the tertiary institutions to reverse the new fees or being proposed in the face of rising economic hardships in the country.

The State Chairman of the Association, Francis Adeyanju, issued the deadline at a news conference on Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adeyanju warned that the association would mobilize students to shut down the state with a mass protests, if the new fees are not reversed at the expiration of the deadline.

The student body also said they would mobilize students to occupy the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, until the new fees are versed.

Adeyanju describes the new tuition fees as abnormal, killing and designed to force some students out of schools, and make life difficult for their parents.

Already, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) had shut down the institution, following mass protests of its students against the new fees announced for the coming session.

The students had boycotted their second semester examination, scheduled to have started on Wednesday to join protests on the Ijebu Ode-Ore Highway.

The new tuition fees announced by TASUED was over 100 per cent increase over the current fees regime.

Also, students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta recently staged a protests against the increase in acceptance fees for the fresh students.

Rockcity FM gathers that other state owned tertiary institutions, such as the ICT Polytechnics, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Mapoly, Abeokuta are about to announce an increase in their tuition fees.
