Ogun State Considers Death Penalty for Convicted Cultists

Ogun State Government is considering a death penalty for convicted cultists, in the wake of killing of eight persons from the fresh cult-related attacks in Sagamu.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said he had discussed the proposal with the State Attorney General, adding that people may have a rethink, when they understand the consequence of their behaviors.

Abiodun announced the proposal at a meeting with the paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi at the Akarigbo palace in Sagamu.

The Governor told the Monarch that he had directed the State Police Commissioner, the Director of the Department of State Service (DSS), Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps and other Security Agencies, to relocate to Sagamu to rid it of the cultists.

He said the Security Agencies would depend on Traditional Rulers in the area for intelligence support, because they know the cultists who live in their domains.

Earlier, the Akarigbo had expressed concern over the cultists who are on the rampage in the town.

The monarch who said the cult-related attacks are scaring away investors from the town, requested for more police and military formations in the town for prompt reaction to the cultists attacks.
