Ogun State Government has completed the conversion of its mass transit buses to use Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), in place of diesel or petrol.

The buses were being converted to use CNG at the Asero Assembly Plant in Abeokuta, as part of measures to provide alternative to the costly petrol.

The state government had engaged Indian engineers for the conversion programme for the pilot phase of Ogun State E-mobility Project.

Secretary to the state government, Tokunbo Talabi, during an inspection visit to the plant last weekend, said the buses would be test run this week.

The Indian engineers, apart from assisting in converting the buses to use CNG, were training local technicians and auto mechanics to do the conversion.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, while announcing his administration’s petrol subsidy palliative on Monday, said staff buses would also be converted to use CNG.

The governor added that public transport buses would also be converted to use gas, instead of diesel or petrol.
