Kidnappers Strike Again In Ogun, Abduct Ex-FCE Provost, Driver

Armed kidnappers have struck again in Ogun State, abducting the immediate past Provost of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Ayodeji Ajayi.

The former provost was abducted on Tuesday night along with his wife and driver, at Ikija village, near Olodo, on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road.

The gunmen, firing gunshots into the air, emerged from the bush into the road attacking motorists, abducting several of them, including the former provost, his wife and driver.

The kidnappers who took away the former provost and his driver, later released the wife.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, confirming the incident said police are yet to identify those abducted by the kidnappers.

She, however, said their victim and his wife were heading from a function at a school owned by his wife at Olodo.

The police spokesperson said the gunmen initially abducted several people, but forced by the police intervention to release most of them, including the former provost’s wife.

Odutola said police team had been tracking the kidnappers to rescue those still in their custody.

“We don’t know the identity of the man yet. We cannot say whether he was a former provost or not. But we can confirm that someone was kidnapped.

“We learnt that the victim and his wife were coming from a function. I think the wife of the man has a school and they were just returning from an event in the school when the gunmen struck.

“The gunmen took a lot of people initially, but they later released them and took the man, his wife and the driver.

“But police and other security operatives mounted pressure on the abductors which made them later release other people kidnapped, including the man’s wife, but the man and his driver were taken away.

“The police have recovered the vehicle of the man which was later abandoned by the abductors. We are on the trail of the abductors”, Odutola said.
