FUNAAB VC Urges Meat Sellers To Ensure Their Animals Are Checked

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Babatunde Kehinde, has advised meat and bird sellers in Nigeria to always have their animals checked by veterinary doctors, before selling their products to the people.

He also said that animals being taken in and out of the country should be quarantined for the safety of those consuming them.

The Vice Chancellor gave the advice on Wednesday, during the fourteenth oath taking and induction ceremony of graduating students of the university’s college of veterinary medicine on the campus of the institution.

He charged the graduating doctors to take life and health of animals in the country very important, in order to save humanity, because dangers to animal health pose threat to human survival.

According to him, Nigerian veterinary doctors, like their foreign counterparts, are beginning to place much emphasis on lives and health of animals, which is so much important to consumers of animals.

He said veterinary doctors graduating from FUNAAB are capable of saving the world, by saving animals from being infected with disease that could easily affect human existence.

The best three students with highest CGPA from each level and exceptional alumni of the department were given awards.

The best graduating student in the department, Ajala Temitope, with CGPA 4.62, received an award and cash prices from different veterinary organisations.

He also received awards for the best graduating student in Veterinary Pharmacology, Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Theriogenology and Pathology.

The second overall best graduating student, Dunsin Oyetayo with 4.53 CGPA, as well as, third overall best, Oluwatobiloba Aregbede with CGPA 4.44  received awards and cash prizes.

Also the university offered a free internship with reasonable salary for the three best graduating students.
