Transport Fare Hits Rooftop In Abeokuta, Following Sharp Increase In Petrol Price

Transport fare has jumped to an unprecedented level in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, following the upward adjustment of petrol price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

According to the template, the official pump price of a litre of petrol in Abeokuta, is now N500.

Following the release of the new price template, petrol stations in the city had been adjusting the meter of their pump to N500.

The upward adjustment of the pump price has also reduced, the usual long queue at various fueling stations in the city.

Taking advantage of the new pump price, taxi cabs are now charging between N400 to N500 for a trip from Fajol/Mountain of Fire Church at Obantoko to Kuto.

Commercial motorcyclists were charging N600 for the same trip.

Also, N300 to N200 is being charged by taxi cab from Carwash to Fajol.

Most of the taxi cab drivers told Rockcity FM that the sudden change in the pump price of petrol and the scarcity of the product compel them to jerk up their fare.
