Fourteen Passengers Including 4 Month Old Baby, Die In Fatal Crash On Lagos-Badagry Road

Fourteen passengers including a four month old baby, have died in a ghastly auto-crash along the Lagos-badagry Expressway.

However, others were injured in the Sunday morning crash at Agemowo, near Mowo axis of the expressway.

Furthermore, the accident involved an 18 passenger bus marked MUS 411 XU heading from Lagos to Benin Republic, and a trailer conveying granite from Badagry, whose number plate is AKM 926 YQ.

Unit commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), William Manga, said both of the vehicles were speeding.

The driver of the bus, crashed into the trailer.

In addition, the medical Director of Badagry General Hospital, Dr. Olatunde Bakare, said  ten bodies were brought to the hospital, while four other who were injured,  died while receiving treatment.

The FRSC commander added that the driver of the truck was not affected.

Meanwhile, he urged motorists not to exceed speed limits, adding that they should always have routine vehicle checks, for prompt detection and replacement of faults.

Theresa Avoseh, one of those at the scene, told NAN that the people involved in the accident were returning home after celebrating with their relations at Makoko in Lagos.

“The bus, loaded around 5:30 am, was going to Seme with people who went to celebrate with their relatives,” she said.

Olatunde Bakare, medical director of the general hospital, Badagry, said 10 of the victims were brought in dead.

He said while his staff were attending to the injured ones, four more died, which raised the number to 14.

Bakare said the hospital was doing its best to save the lives of the nine surviving passengers.
