Filling Stations Shut Gates To Customers As Petrol Scarcity In Ogun

Filling stations in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, and other major towns across the state have shut their gates against motorists.

The filling station operators are reacting to the announcement by president Bola Tinubu that the petrol subsidy would no longer be sustained as from June.

Across Abeokuta, most of the filling stations stopped sales of the product, minutes after the announcement on Monday.

The gradual scarcity was first noticed last Sunday, hours to the may 29 inauguration

when only a handful of filling stations were dispensing petrol in the city.

There were long queues at a handful of filling stations opened for business.

The scarcity of petrol also resurfaced in several parts of the country,

Marketers reacted to the announcement of Tinubu that petrol subsidy is gone.

In major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Warri, and  Ibadan, most of the petrol dealers stopped selling petrol.

Queues were seen at some of the stations still selling petrol.

A handful of fuel stations belonging to independent marketers still selling raised the pump prices to as high as n300 per litre.

Reacting to the development, the Nigerian national petroleum company limited asks motorists to stop engaging in panic buying of petrol.

Nnpc, at an emergency news conference in Abuja, said the company has enough stock of petrol to last the country for 30 days.

He assured of continued regular supply of the product, while  monitoring its supply and distribution.
