Edo APC Primaries Confusion Deepens As It Produces Three Governorship Candidates for September Poll

Confusion has deepened in the Edo state All Progressive Congress (APC), as another candidate has been declared as the winner of the Saturday primaries, held to pick the party’s flag bearer for the September 2024 governorship poll in the state.

The new candidate, Honorable Anamero Dekeri, who is a member of the House of Representatives, was the third candidate to be declared as the winner of the disputed primaries held at three different venues in Benin City on Saturday.

Earlier, the election planning committee chairman, Governor Hope Uzodinma had declared Senator Dennis Idahosa as the winner of the primaries.

Also, the state APC primaries returning officer, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Senator Monday Okpobholo as the winner of the primaries.

One Ojo Babatunde claiming to act on behalf of the APC local government returning officers claimed Senator Anamero Dekeri was declared by returning officers for the local government areas.

Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Chairman of the primary election committee also declared Idahosa winner of the exercise while the returning officer for the primary, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the APC candidate.

However, thugs had earlier attacked the Lushville Hotel in Benin City where the returning officer, Stanley Ugboaja was announcing the results on Saturday afternoon which left many scampering for safety.

Four people were also injured in the process.

Before journalists could gather their things together, the thugs swooped on the venue after overpowering the police operatives at the gate.

Several journalists, including an NTA cameraman and an FRCN reporter, were manhandled and their equipment was damaged.
