Bandits Kill and Abduct Many in Attack on Muslim Procession in Katsina

Terrorists have attacked a procession of Muslim celebrating the Malud in Katsina State, killing and abducting unspecified number of people.

Many people, including children, were shot dead and abducted by the terrorists during the attack at Kusa in Musawa Local Government Area, at about 11.05 pm on Sunday.

There are however discrepancies in the actual number of people killed, with residents saying the figure is as much as 30 persons, while others said the number was higher.

The vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bala Ibrahim who is from the area, said 14 people were killed, while 17 others sustained bullet wounds.

However, the police command said only two lost their lives while 18 others were injured during the attack.

Residents said the terrorists invaded the event and opened gunfire on the celebrants.

The terrorists managed to escape after the attack with those abducted before the arrival of security forces.

Meanwhile, Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Monday, visited the community.

The governor was said to be returning from Kaduna when he learnt of the incident, the development which made him visit the community and commiserate with residents.

His Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement.

He said, “His Excellency commiserated with the victims and assured them that the government would do all in its power to ensure that peace returns to the entire state.

“He said he was disturbed by what happened and condoled with those who lost their lives and visited some victims. Some of the villagers thanked the governor for the visit. They said it was  the first time a governor was commiserating with them and they commended him for setting  up community watch corps and assured him that they will be praying for his success in the war against banditry.”

The Katsina State Police Command on Monday evening confirmed the killing of nine persons in the Sunday attack.
