Spokesman of the Senate, Bashir Ajibola says the All Progressive Congress (APC) leadership will determine the formula for zoning the post of principal officer of the tenth National Assembly.

The APC senator said decision on the zoning formula would be taken by the party leadership at the end of ongoing Ramadan fast or before June 2023.

Senator Ajibola on a television programme, said many variables would be considered to elect the National Assembly leadership.

According to him, the variables include religion, and the Geo Political Zone which produced the highest number of votes during the presidential poll.

He said the proposed zoning would reduce the number of aspirants for the National Assembly’s leadership positions on the APC platform.

Already, eight of the APC senator-elect are scrambling for the position.

They include Orji Uzoer Kalu, Jibrin Barau, Abdulaziz Yari, Godswill Akpabio and the incumbent Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

However, an Abuja High Court has revoked the primaries conducted by the APC for the November 2023 Kogi State governorship poll.

The primaries were conducted last March at the ward and local government levels.

Justice James Omotosho cancelled the primaries while ruling on the application filed by aggrieved aspirants to challenge the outcome of the primaries.

The judge ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission not to accept any list of candidates from Kogi State APC for the governorship poll.

Earlier on Wednesday, the APC has adopted a direct mode of primaries for the conduct of the governorship primary poll in the state.

The party informed INEC and the aspirants of its decision to adopt the direct mode in a letter dated 6th April, 2023, and signed by the acting national chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
