Abiodun Protests Transfer Of Ogun Land Grabbing Suspects To Police AIG In Lagos

Governor Dapo Abiodun has asked the police zonal headquarters in Lagos State to allow the Ogun State command, to handle the cases of arrested land grabbers in the state.

He expressed concern that suspected land grabbers arrested by police in the state, often preferred to be transferred to the zone two police command to avoid prosecution.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, expressed his concern, while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Ogun and Lagos States, Ari Mohammed at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun said often times, the suspected land grabbers arrested in Ogun State are often released by the zonal command in Lagos State, to return to their various communities to continue terrorizing the people.

He suggested that suspected land grabbers arrested in Ogun State should first be taken to the state police commissioner, who in his wisdom, could decide if the suspects deserve to be transferred to the AIG, in Lagos State.

The governor said land grabbing, cultism and kidnapping are the major security challenges facing the state requiring urgent attention.

He said arrangements have been finalized to launch the surveillance drones newly acquired to effectively tackle the rising cases of kidnapping and cultism across the state.

The governor said the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun would launch the drones at the appropriate time.

”We believe that with the use of drones, we will be able to reduce the number of blind spots that we have in the state because as of now, there is no way, even if we deplore the entire police in Ogun State, we can not cover all the blind spots in the state.

“When we deplore these drones, particularly, along the known occurrences, it will allow men of the Command to respond to distress calls as soon as they identified where the crime has been committed.

“Also, I would like to plead with you for some of your men to assist us in this anti-cultism fight. We are prepared to provide them with the required logistics as the former CP will be overseeing the different units of Anti-cultism, kidnapping and Quick Response Squad.”

The governor, who solicited the cooperation of the AIG in breaking the backbone of land grabbers, said when arrested, the culprits preferred to be taken to Zone 2 to avoid being prosecuted.
