Police in Osun state have banned commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders in Osun State from wearing hood or face masks while operating in the state.

Those found doing so would henceforth be arrested by the police.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Yemisi Opalola, said the ban, followed several complaints from passengers of sexual assault and robbery by commercial motorcyclists wearing hood or face masks.

Opalola said such hooded motorcyclists always escaped after the act, because of their hidden identity.

She assured that the command would not relent in its efforts to reduce criminal acts in the state.

Opalola called on the leadership of bike riders’ associations in the state to warn their members against covering their heads and faces in any form while riding their motorcycles.

She also stated that the command has mapped out strategies to arrest and prosecute anyone who violates the ban.
