Ogun State House of Assembly says it is considering a fresh amendment of the Ogun State Anti-kidnapping and Land Grabbing Law 2016.

The Speaker of the House, Olakunle Oluomo, said the proposed review aimed at making the law more effective.

Oluomo made this known during the Tuesday plenary, while responding to submission of members from Odeda, Ogun waterside, Remo North and Ijebu North Local Government Areas.

The lawmakers had complained over the incessant attacks by kidnappers and land grabbers in their areas.

One of them, Oludaisi Elemide representing Odeda State Constituency said kidnappers had  been on rampage in Olodo axis of Abeokuta-Ibadan road, while Kolawole Awolaja from Waterside talked about the spate of kidnapping in the riverine axis of the area.

Segun Kaka from the Ijebu North also said kidnappers were active in Sapade, Fidiwo and part of his Local Government Areas.

The speaker said the Anti-kinapping and Land Grabbing Law 2016 would get a review under his leadership to cope with the fresh challenges posed by the kidnappers and land-grabbers.

He asked the new police commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu to live up to his pledge to effectively tackle the land grabbers across the state.

He noted that the 10th Assembly under his leadership would consider a review of some sections of the Anti-Kidnapping and Land Grabbing Law, 2016 for more effectiveness.

In his words, calling on the leadership of the 10th National Assembly to re-consider the creation of State Police/community policing, Olumo stated that the creation of such would empower the local residents to easily provide the necessary security intelligence to assist the police towards securing lives and property of the people in the State.

Earlier, Elemide, Adekunle, Awolaja, and Kaka had decried the incessant cases of kidnapping in some parts of their constituencies.

The affected areas according to the lawmakers include; the Olodo portion of Obantoko/Ibadan Road in Odeda, riverine communities in Ogun Waterside, and Saapade/Fidiwo/Ogunmakin.

They, however, appealed to the security agencies to rise up to the task of securing the lives of the people in their respective communities.
