Abiodun Accuses Some Ogun Obas of Selling Government Land, Some to Non-Indigenes

Governor Dapo Abiodun has accused some traditional rulers in Ogun state of selling belongings to the state government, particularly in the forest reserves.

He said the affected traditional rulers are selling government land in forest reserves in some cases to non-indigenes of the state, who were destroying economic trees planted there.

The Governor, who was worried over the development, said some of the land was being sold by traditional rulers in the forest reserves, to people from outside the state, who used them to plant Indian hemp.

Abiodun speaking on the issue during the statutory meeting of the Oba Council of State at the Oba Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, said the action of such traditional rulers was unpatriotic.

He warned that disciplinary measures would be taken against any person, including traditional rulers, found selling land in the forest reserves.

The Governor urges the traditional rulers to avoid such acts capable of tarnishing the image of the royalty and the throne in the state.

Meanwhile, the 250-bed N7 billion Mitros Hospital, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, is to be concessional towards making it operational.

The mega-hospital was constructed by the Amosun administration, and commissioned by former President Buhari last May 2019.

Abiodun said a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed with Afreximbank and a medical group, to take over the hospital, complete it and operate it.

He explained that his administration is resorting to concessioning the inherited hospital because it lacks the financial capacity to run the hospital.

The Governor cited the case of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu whose N300 million monthly salary bill was being footed by his administration.

He said the 250-bed hospital if properly run, will attract patronage from Nigerians seeking medical treatment abroad.

The Governor also announced that another MOU would be signed this month for the construction of the proposed Kajola Dry Port Project, near Abeokuta.

According to the governor, the proposed dry port when completed, would enable manufacturers and factories in the state to receive and ship their products abroad.

Abiodun also said he recently met the Benin Republic President, who inquired about the state cargo airport, adding that delegates from the Benin Republic had indicated interest in using it for export purposes.
