40 Died, 44 Injured in December Auto Crash in Ogun, Ahead of New Year

Forty persons lost their lives in various auto crash across Ogun state, in December ahead of the new year.

Also, 44 others sustained injuries in the crashes recorded between December 2 and December 30.

Most of the crashes were recorded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, regarded as Nigeria’s busiest highway.

According to statistics on the accident compiled by Rockcity FM, the first crash occurred on December 2, leaving two persons, including a child dead, at Wawa and Ibafo.

The deadliest accident during the period occurred on December 12, when a passenger bus crashed into a truck, leaving 10 passengers dead, and seven others injured.

Also, on December 16, three persons died and seven injured in another crash, near the redemption camp, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Later on, Christmas day, three persons also died, and nine injured in a crash in a head on collision of a car and a bus, along Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange.

Earlier, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had put the number of people who died in auto crashes in the state at 707, between January and October this year.

According to the state FRSC Commander, Anthony Ugah, 1,174 were injured during the ten-month period.

Most of the accidents recorded since January were blamed on night trips, wrongful overtaking and over speeding by motorists.
