Security Operatives Rescue 24 Abducted Travelers at Ajaokuta in Kogi

24 passengers abducted along Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Kogi state have been rescued by security operatives.

The passengers, including 11 students and three teachers, were abducted by kidnappers in Adogo axis of the road last Thursday.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, William Aya, said they were rescued on Saturday night by a joint team of police, troops and local vigilantes.

According to him, the security operatives had entered the dense forest in the axis on Saturday, and later came in contact with the kidnappers and their victims.

Aya said the kidnappers after a gunfight with the security operatives abandoned their captives and escaped.

While 21 victims, including eleven 11 students and three teachers were rescued unhurt, efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, he added.

The Commissioner of Police while commending the efforts of the team, assured the people of a continued onslaught against criminal elements.

Meanwhile, a group under the auspice of Concerned Youths in Ajaokuta has commended Ajaokuta Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, ACP Ayodele Ola Arogbo, and other security agencies, for rescuing all the kidnapped victims in the Local Government.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson on Sunday, Eneye Onimisi, he noted that, since ACP Arogbo was deployed to Ajaokuta, the local government has not been a safe haven for criminal elements.
