192 Died and 929 Injured, In Auto Crashes across Ogun, Last Year

192 persons lost their lives in auto crashes recorded in Ogun state in 2023, according to Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

Also, 929 others sustained various degrees of injuries in the crashes.

Further breakdown of the crashes shows that 61 died, and 302 were injured during the ember months of October, November, and December 2023.

The highest number of 26 deaths and 84 injured was recorded last September, followed by 18 deaths and 57 injured in November.

Earlier in October, four died, 60 were injured, while 13 died and 101 were injured in December 2023.

We recorded 361 motor vehicles, 114 buses, 446 articulated vehicles, 58 motorcycles, nine tricycles, and 34 pedestrians involved in various accidents in 2023.

Comparing years 2022 and 2023 in the state, road traffic deaths increased by 9.09 percent in the year 2023 while the number of persons injured reduced by 12.44 percent, he said.

Akinbiyi identified speeding as the most common cause of road crashes.

He suggested the creation of TRACE Corps rescue patrol teams along the state corridors, the establishment of State Emergency Rescue Service Centres, and constant clearing of obstructions on the road to reduce accidents.
