Seven persons have died in two separate fresh fatal auto crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun state.

14 others were injured on Tuesday at Ogere Toll Gate and a few meters from the foursquare camp.

The first crash near Foursquare Camp involved a passenger bus marked SMK 685 YG, whose driver who was speeding, slept on the wheel.

Spokesperson of the state command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Chief Route Commander Florence Okpeh, said the driver of the bus ran into a truck in motion marked ZE 121 OG.

The bus then lost control after a tire burst.

The second accident which occurred at Ogere toll gate involved a motorcycle marked GGM 72 VV and a jeep marked KSF 512 FW.

Spokesperson of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the motorcycle driving in route violation ran into the jeep.

According to him, the rider of the motorcycle and his passenger died on the spot, while the driver of the jeep and his passenger sustained injuries.

The FRSC said the suspected causes of the fatal crash were burst tire, speed, and fatigue which led to loss of control because the driver was said to have slept off on the wheel and ran into a moving truck.

“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere while the corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

The Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Anthony Uga, however, advised motorists to shun speed and always go for good tires.

Uga, while emphasizing the issue of fatigue, urged drivers to always create time to rest. He equally charged passengers to always be on alert to correct any abnormality they noticed in the drivers, especially when such a driver was seen dozing while behind the wheel.

The sector commander commiserated with the families of the crash victims and prayed to God to grant them the courage to bear the irreparable loss.
