FRSC Plans Special Operation to Reduce Auto crashes on Ogun Major Roads

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is to launch a special operation, to rid major roads in Ogun State of rickety vehicles or mechanically deficient ones, as part of moves to reduce auto crashes in the state.

The special operation, scheduled to kick off this month, would also target motorists who are drunk or under hard drug, while driving on roads across the state.

The new FRSC State Sector Commander, Anthony Ugah, who gave this indication in an interview with a Rockcity FM correspondent, Yemi Eniola, blamed the rising cases of auto crashes in the state, partly on the state of vehicles plying its roads.

According to the FRSC commander, rickety vehicles, particularly commercial vehicles, vehicles with worn out tyres, over-speeding by drivers, as well as bad conditions of some of the vehicles, were contributing to road crashes in the state.

Commander Uga warns FRSC operatives that any of them who fail to stop rickety vehicles, or those which are mechanical deficient, would be disciplined.

He also expressed concern over the cases of drivers, who are drunk or took hard drug before driving, blaming them for some of the auto crashes on the roads in the state.

He warned that any driver caught drunk or under drug while driving, would be arrested and prosecuted.

The FRSC commander asks passengers to always assess the state of the drivers, to ensure they are not drunk, or under drug, as well as, the condition of their vehicles before boarding them.
