Two Varsity Students To Die For Rape, Murder Of Unilorin Student

Two university students have been sentenced to die by hanging for the raping and murder of a 300 level student of University of Ilorin, Blessing Olajide.

The students, Abdulazeez Ismail and Ajala Oluwaleyin, were convicted on Tuesday for killing the Unilorin student, after raping her at her sister’s house at Tanke axis of Ilorin on June 2, 2021.

Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of a Kwara state high court also sentenced another student, Oyeyemi Omogbolahan, to life jail for his role in the rape and killing of the female student.

The judge also jailed two siblings, Abdukareem Shuaib and Kareem Rasheed to three year jail term each for withdrawing money from the bank’s account of the girl after she was murdered.

Justice Yusuf convicting them said he was convinced that those sentenced to be hanged, or to life jail, committed the crime.

The state attorney general, Salman Jawondo regretted that the two students sentenced to death and the one jailed for life, aged between 19 and 23.

According to him, the crime they committed requires that Nigeria needs to work seriously on its future.
