Ten Passengers Die, Ten Others Injured In Ghastly Auto Crash in Kwara

Ten passengers, including a child, have lost their lives in an auto crash along Ilorin-Jebba Highway in Kwara state.

Ten others sustained injuries in the accident which occurred at 6.40 A.M. on Monday.

The accident at the Iyemoja axis of the highway involved a truck and a Toyota Hiace bus which was conveying 17 passengers from Lagos to Sokoto.

The truck which engaged in a wrongful overtaking had a head-on collision with the passenger bus.

The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Stephen Dawlung, confirmed the incident and said the bodies of those who died had been taken to the morgue of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

Those injured were taken to the Ilorin General Hospital.

The Sector Commander said that on receipt of the crash report, the rescue operatives at Olooru Unit and the Help and Rescue Camp were immediately mobilized to the crash scene.

He said that the injured victims were taken to State Hospital, Ilorin while corpses of the dead were taken to Teaching Hospital mortuary, Ilorin.

The corps sympathized with the families of the dead and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.

The Sector Commander admonished drivers to avoid wrongful overtaking and excessive speeding, saying they were the major causes of fatal crashes.

He, however, said that the Corps would continue to play its part in ensuring the safety of all road users, saying drivers should remember to drive to stay alive.
