Supreme Court To Rule On PDPs Suit On Tinubu, Shetimma Ticket For 2023 Polls

Supreme Court will rule on Friday, on a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Congress (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar

However, seeking the disqualification of President-elect Bola Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, from the 2023 presidential poll.

Atiku in the application, filed on July 28, 2021, wants the apex court to disqualify the Tinubu/Shetimma joint ticket from the presidential poll

According to the petition, the joint ticket violated sections 29, 33, 35 and 84 of the electoral act 2022.

During the Monday session, the PDP counsel, Joe Agim told the apex court to revoke the judgement of a court of appeal which upheld that of a federal high court on the application.

Both the Federal High Court and appeal court in their separate judgements, had dismissed the petition, on the ground that the PDP lacks the right, to question the process of other parties, in the nomination of candidates.

A Senior Advocate, Babatunde Ogala for the All Progressive Congress (APC), told the court that the 180 days allowed for hearing of the pre-election petitions had expired.

The five member panel, after listening to both parties, announced Friday date for its judgement on the petition.
