Rivers House Of Assembly Withdrew Notice of Impeachment Against Fubara

Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday withdrew its notice of impeachment against Governor Siminalye Fubara.

The notice of withdrawal was stated in a letter signed by 26 of the members and read by their speaker, Martins Amaewhule after they resumed sitting at the assembly quarters in Port Harcourt.

The speaker explained that the withdrawal was in line with the conflict resolution intervention instituted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Last Monday, Tinubu had brokered a peace meeting between the governor and the 26 lawmakers who are pro-Wike, at the presidential villa.

Some of the agreement included that the governor would withdraw all litigations against the lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC.

Also, the pro-Wike lawmakers agreed to drop their impeachment plan against the governor and approved the state’s 2024 budget bill passed by four lawmakers loyal to the governor.

The court had barred the State House of Assembly and the State Chief Justice from impeaching the Governor of the state, Fubara, pending the determination of the Motion on notice before it.

But at the resumed hearing, Counsel for State House of Assembly, Ferdinand Orbih, SAN, informed the Court that he had the instruction of his clients to withdraw the matter from court.

Orbih noted that the decision grew from the peace agreement of the parties in this suit at Abuja, on Monday.

But in a swift response, counsel for the claimant, Okoro, SAN, told the court that he had yet to receive instructions from his client to withdraw the matter.
