Reconstruction of the Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway to Cost More than N150 Billion

The reconstruction of the Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway handed over to the Ogun state government, is to cost more than N150 billion.

The initial contract costs of the project when it was awarded by federal government in 2021, was N70 billion.

Governor Dapo Abiodun spoke on the project, while receiving the management team of Lafarge Africa PLC, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun attributed the rise in the cost of the project to the high prices of asphalt, diesel and cement, due to the inflation.

The Governor called for the financial support of Lafarge and other major companies operating along the expressway for the reconstruction of the road, which is now in deplorable condition.

He said that Lafarge and other major companies in the axis need to sit down with the state government and identify the part of the bill for the project they will pick up.

He identified Lafarge and other major industries along the expressway, as one of the major contributors to its deplorable condition, with their trucks conveying material and cement.

The Governor also asked Lafarge to adopt the global best practice in disposing its industrial wastes in the host communities.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said throughout the 64 years of the company in Nigeria, it had been contributing to the economic growth of Ewekoro axis of the state.
