Presidency Proposes To Ogun Joint Funding Of Ota-Abeokuta Road Repairs

Federal Government has proposed to the Ogun State Government, the joint reconstruction of Ota-Abeokuta expressway, as part of planned review of all federal roads in the state.

Works Minister, Dave Umahi proposed that Federal Government would foot 40 per cent of the contract sum, while Ogun State Government picks 60 per cent of the costs.

The Minister, making the offer during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, said the proposal was made under the highway development management initiative.

Umahi also said under the proposed deal, Ogun State government would be allowed to award the contract to contractors of his choice.

The Minister also said that the ongoing reconstruction of Sagamu-Ikorodu road remains eight kilometre to be completed by November 2023, while the Abeokuta-Ajebo road project is 21 per cent completed.

Umahi adds that the overlaying of Sagamu-Ore expressway in underway, while the construction of Papalanto-Benin Republic border, is being handled by Dangote under the Dangote industries tax credit scheme.

Earlier, the Governor had recalled how Federal Government frustrated the proposal of both Ogun and Lagos State Governments, to reconstruct Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

According to him, despite meeting conditions of the Federal Government, the proposal was killed, leading to further deterioration of the expressway.
