Organized Labour Sets For Indefinite Strike from Tuesday, Next Week

The organized Labour has issued a strike notice, over its dispute with the Federal Government on the unending negotiations on the palliatives to cushion the harsh effects of the petroleum subsidy removal.

Both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday, said the nationwide strike would kick off on October 3rd, and continue indefinitely.

Both bodies in a joint communique, issued after holding their separate emergency meeting of the National Executive Council, said they had agreed to work together on the proposed strike.

They asked Nigerians to brace up for a prolonged strike, and to begin stockpiling of foodstuff and other vital needs, ahead of Tuesday, next week, when the strike would start.

Meanwhile, the Organized Private Sector has pleaded with the Organized Labour not to go on strike.

It warned that any form of nationwide strike for now, would have more devastating effects on the economy which is on its knees.

The Organized Private Sector, including the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN); Nigeria Association of Chambers and Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, and Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association of Nigeria, made the plea in a joint statement.

Director General of MAN, Segun Kadiri-Ajayi asked both federal government and the organized labour to consider the wellbeing of the over 200 million Nigerians in their endless negotiations.
