Court Remands Wale Adedayo at Ibara Prison, Pending Perfection of Bail Terms

Former Chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo has appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrate Court, in the Ogun State Capital.

The police charged him to court on Tuesday, to face a petition filed by the Ogun State Government over his allegation that the statutory allocation of the state’s 20 local governments, were being diverted.

However, he was arraigned on two count charges of unlawful publication of false accusation against Governor Dapo Abioldun.

Also, in the charges, the police prosecutor Inspector Olaide Rawlings said that Adedayo knew that his allegation was false, and likely to cause disturbance, as well as, damaging the reputation the governor.

Adedayo’s counsel, Kayode Akinsola applied for the bail of his client, which the magistrate A. Araba, granted.

The magistrate granted him bail, in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.

The two sureties, according to the magistrate, must be reliable, responsible, reside within Abeokuta, and must possess landed property with tax clearance.

The magistrate ordered the remand of the former chairman at the Abeokuta Correctional Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta, pending the perfection of his bail condition.

The trial has been adjourned till October 20.

Adedayo was arrested on Monday at his home in Ijebu Ife, by a team of police officers, who brought him to the state police headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The former chairman spent the night in police custody.

He had accused the State Government of diverting the statutory allocation of the state’s local governments and ecology fund, which other 19 chairmen had refuted.

While, he was later impeached by councilors of his local government for an alleged misappropriation of the council’s fund.

After, his impeachment, he was detained by Department of State Service (DSS) for two days before he was released.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has accused the former chairman of telling lies against him that he diverted the statutory allocation of local governments.

The governor had said that Adedayo would be made to prove his allegations that he diverted the funds.
