Okupe Says Peter Obi and His Movement Used Labour Party as Special Purpose Vehicle to Win 2023 Poll

Former Labour Party’s director general, Dr. Doyin Okupe has said that the party was used by Peter Obi and his supporters for the purpose of the 2023 presidential poll.

According to him, himself and Peter Obi never believe in the ideology of the Labour party.

Okupe, speaking on a television program, said that Peter Obi and his obedient movement used the Labour party, as a special purpose vehicle, to win the 2023 presidential poll.

Peter Obi, according to Okupe, is not pro-labour or leftist, but a trader, businessman and a liberal democrat.

The politician explained that if the Labour party had won the 2023 poll, Peter Obi would have reached a consensus with the labour movement on the issue of ideology.

Recently, Peter Obi hinted that he would pull his obedient movement from labour party, if its leadership crisis persists.

We thought that if we won the election… there are no fast and hard rules about ideologies. You can always find a shade between the left and the right. You can always move to the centre.

We were hoping and praying that if we won we would find a way to come to some consensus with the labour.

Peter Obi is not a labour person. He is not a leftist person. He is a trader. He is a businessman just like me. I am a liberal democrat. I believe in liberal democracy, I believe in free enterprise.

I am not a social worker. As far as I’m concerned, my membership of labour expired the moment we lost that election, he stated.

Okupe, who chided the PDP for fielding a northerner for the 2023 presidential election, described it as an unreasonable thing to do.

He explained that it was unreasonable thing to do when Nigerians were clamouring for the presidency to go to the Southern part of the country.
