Ogun Speaker Wants Police Out Of Land Matters, Accuses Them of Aiding Land Grabbers

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, honorable Olakunle Oluomo, has made a case for the handling of matters on land dispute in the state, by the state owned security agencies instead of police.

According to him, the state attorney general should also handle the prosecution, instead of the police.

Oluomo speaking, while appearing on the RockCity FM programme:’ Day-Break Show’, said police should have no say on land matters in the state.

He canvassed for the empowerment of the State So-Safe Corps and Amotekun Corps, to effect the arrest and prosecution of suspected land grabbers, and those encroaching on land of other people in the state.

Oluomo said the intervention by the police on land dispute, has been aiding land grabbers in the state, to escape punishments stipulated in the Ogun State Anti-Land Grabbing Act.

He accused the police also of watering down charges filed in courts against those arrested for land grabbing in the state.

On the ongoing amendment of the anti-land grabbing act bill, the speaker said the input of major stakeholders during the Wednesday’s public hearing on the bill would be considered by the lawmakers.

Among others, Oluomo said the assembly in amending the bill would consider the proposal for the establishment of a special tribunal for trying suspected land grabbers.

Another major proposal is the setting up of a special task force to enforce the provision of the amended bill.

The speaker also canvassed for the establishment of the State Police Force, which was in the last constitutional amendment bill, which was rejected by former President Buhari.
