NLC Promises to Provide a Safety Net for Nigerian Workers Who Lose Their Jobs during Global Transition

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has promised to provide a safety net for Nigerian workers who may lose their jobs during the global transition to cleaner energy.

The safety nets will include insurance and pension policies.

The Congress President, Joe Ajaero, made the pledge at the ongoing climate summit in Dubai during the side event organized by the NLC to fight for the rights of workers during the transition period.

He explained that workers likely to be affected are those in fossil fuel companies, and those whose jobs might be affected during the shift to cleaner energy.

Ajaero, however, said the anticipated transition to cleaner energy would not bring loss of jobs, but creation of new jobs.

The NLC President also said the proposed cleaner energy would bring about sufficient energy, eradicate power shortage by making available about 100,000megawatts of electricity for Nigeria.
