New Twist to Oluomo Impeachment as Ogun Assembly Initiates Probe of Allegations Against Him

There appears to be a new twist to the impeachment of the speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honorable Olakunle Oluomo.

Seven days after the impeachment, the house convened on Monday and set up a panel to investigate the allegations leveled against the former speaker, and invited him to defend himself against the allegations.

The Deputy Speaker, Honorable Bolanle Ajayi, instead of the new speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, presided over the Monday plenary and announced the ad-hoc panel to investigate the former speaker.

The panel, headed by Musefiu Lamidi has as members, Babatunde Tella, Damilola Soneye, Lukman Adeleye, Fola Salami, and Olusegun Odunuga, while the Director of Legislative Services, Temitope Hokon, served as the secretary.

Oluomo later appeared before the panel, but the meeting ended abruptly, after Oluomo objected to the composition of membership of the panel, and refused to answer questions posed to him.

Later, the deputy speaker advised Oluomo to step aside pending the outcome of the ad-hoc panel’s investigations of the allegations leveled against him.

Oluomo, addressing newsmen after leaving the panel, said that he honored the invitation because of the respect he had for the house, adding that he was served with notice of his impeachment at 10.45 A.M. on Monday which was acknowledged at 11.30 A.M.

Oluomo also said he failed to answer questions posed to him by the panel on the allegations because the matter was already before a court.
