New Ogun House of Assembly Speaker Clears Governor Abiodun from Oluomo Impeachment

The new speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has said the new house leadership would support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

He was elected following the impeachment of Olakunle Oluomo as the speaker during the Tuesday plenary.

Elemide addressing newsmen after his election, cleared the governor of any involvement in the Tuesday’s impeachment of Oluomo as the speaker.

The new speaker said the Governor knew nothing about the impeachment.

Oluomo was impeached during the Tuesday plenary, which was presided over by the deputy speaker, while attending a public function with the governor, few meters to the assembly complex.

The new speaker said his team was in full custody of all the authorities of the house, assuring that they were law abiding legislators.

18 out of the 26 members of the house voted for the impeachment of Oluomo, who was accused of corruption, poor leadership and embezzlement of money meant for the lawmakers.

They also accused him of non-disclosure of the assembly finance, spending the house fund on personal travel without approval, and creating conflicts among members and with the state government.

Other allegations against Oluomo are using foul languages on members, forcing his opinions on members, and flagrant disobedience to the court’s orders and collective decision.

The motion for his impeachment was moved by an All Progressive Congress (APC) member, Adegoke Adyanju who was seconded by another APC member, Ademola Adeniran.
