Muslims Are Marking Eid El Kabir Festival, Warned Against Sick Animals

Muslims Community in Nigeria are today joining their counterparts in other parts of the world to celebrate the 2023 Eid el Kabir festival.

Already, today and tomorrow have been declared work free to mark the festival.

Thousands of people had traveled to their various hometowns for the two day celebration.

Some other intending travelers changed their minds at the various motor parks, following the unprecedented hike in transport fare.

This morning, prayers were held at the various eid praying grounds nationwide.

This was followed by the slaughtering of Sallah rams.

Meanwhile, as Muslims mark Eid el Kabir, Ogun state government has advised them to avoid contact with sick animals, as part of moves to keep anthrax from the state.

It listed other animals they should avoid, as including animals which died suddenly, and those bleeding from natural body opening.

The state government, in a public health advisory on anthrax outbreak, said the measures aims at mitigating the spread of the disease, especially during the sallah period.

Residents are advised to buy meat only from registered slaughter slabs, and to report the sudden death of animals to the appropriate authorities.

It also prohibited the roadside sale of animals,asking traders seeking to do so to obtain permits from the state veterinary department.
