Mother of Three Commits Suicide in Enugu

A mother of three little children has committed suicide in the Enugu metropolis.

The woman, according to sources was suffering from depression after she was abandoned by her husband.

Fed up with life, the woman went to the Ogui police station in the city and dropped her three children there.

She then ran out of the station, stripped herself naked, and ran into a moving vehicle which crushed her to death, opposite the police station.

The children, all aged under seven years, could not tell the police any information about their father, family, hometown, or residential address.

Moved by the plight of the children, the First Lady of Enugu state, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mba, visited the police station and announced her sponsorship of the children.

When asked about their father, the eldest of the children simply said he was lost. She could not give any other information about their family, town, or residential address.

She pledged to support the education of the children from nursery to university level.

She announced that sponsorship for the children would be undertaken by her Custos Care Foundation. Mbah also directed the immediate relocation of the children from the station to a home, where the state government could take care of them.

She urged people who suffer from depression to seek counseling and avoid rash decisions. She also urged the Commissioner, of the Ministry of Children, Gender and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, to intensify sensitization and counseling, especially for the depressed.
