Labour Threatens Strike, Without Notice, If Petrol Price Is Jerked up Again

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to call out workers on a nationwide strike, if there is further increase in the pump price of petrol.

Petroleum Products Marketers had alerted that a litre of petrol may go for N750, in a few days to come, due to the continued sharp drop in the exchange rate of the naira.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, issued the threat, on Monday in Abuja, during the ongoing meeting of the African Alliance of Trade Unions.

He warned that the Labour would not issue a formal notice to the government, ahead of the next strike, if the pump price is raised again when the presidential palliative committee is still meeting.

The Labour leader also said Labour would called for the strike without notice, if the promised federal government’s palliatives is not in place.

He expressed concern that some of federal government’s policies have made nonsense of the wages of workers and income of Nigerians.

Ajaero asked federal government to check some of the policies leading to unprecedented inflation, and the devaluation of the naira to reduce the economic hardships.
