Labour Finalizing Mobilization Ahead Of Strike, and Resumed Palliative Talks

Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are finalizing their mobilization of workers nationwide, ahead of planned protests on Wednesday against President Bola Tinubu administration’s economic policies

The mobilization reached a critical level on Sunday as the Organized Labour leaders’ sets for another round of negotiations with federal government on the proposed palliatives on petrol subsidy removal

The Labour centre on Sunday had notified the solicitor general of the federation that federal government could not stop the rally.

The solicitor general last week had cautioned Labour leaders not to go ahead with their planned protests because of the subsisting interim order of the national industrial court restraining them from organizing any form of strike for now.

But the Labour centre which had engaged Falana chambers in the letter reminded the solicitor general that planned rally would hold and does not violate any court order.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Employers consultative association (NECA) has warned that the planned protests by the organized Labour from Wednesday is ill-advised

It says that any form of social disobedience for now would be counter-productive, as it could lead to a breakdown of law and order with its attendant risk for the organized business sector and the country.

The association’s Director General, Adewale smart-Oyerinde calls for an urgent action by major stakeholders including federal government.

He advocates for more social dialogue to avoid the protests strike, while federal government should roll out its palliatives to complement efforts by the state governments.
