Justice Olukayode Asks Federal High Court Judges to be Diligent While Writing Judgments

Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwo-Ola, has asked judges of the federal high court to be diligent while writing their judgements.

He cautions them against putting judiciary in disrepute with their conduct and judgements.

Justice Ariwo-Ola issued the advice, while declaring open the annual federal high court judges conference and fiftieth anniversary lecture in Abuja.

He told the judges that Federal High Court was Nigeria’s largest court whose jurisdiction keep extending.

Nigeria’s Chief Judge urged them to endeavor to be hardworking, and diligent in writing of judgements to avoid them being overturned by the appeal court.

Anyone lucky enough to be appointed to this court without mincing words is indeed very lucky and should not take that for granted.

I implore you all to please continue to work very hard; work hard and harder and go the extra mile each time.

Do not assume that what then are the gentlemen at the appellate court doing? No, let that (appellate) court affirm your decisions.

Always write your judgments so that the appellate court will have no choice but to affirm your decisions.

Don’t leave any loopholes, he said.

According to CJN, to be a judge certainly is not a child’s play, particularly at your court, where you don’t sit as a panel; you sit as a lone ranger.

You sit all alone; you are the lord of the court. Please always go the extra mile, even in what you consider a simple application.
