Ogun Assembly Begins Screening Of Commissioners

Ogun state house of assembly will today begin the screening of eight commissioner-nominees forwarded to it by Governor Dapo Abiodun for consideration and approval.

The nominees are: Oladapo Okubadejo, Adebowale Ade Adesanya, Dr. Tomi Coker, Abayomi Arigbabu, Oluwasina Ogungbade, Olaolu Olabimtan, Jagunmolu Omoniyi and Hamzat Ganiyu.

Six of the nominees, Dr Coker, Okubadejo, Ganiyu, Arigbabu, Omoniyi and Olabimtan, served in the first term cabinet of Governor Abiodun.

The speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, unveiled the nominees during the Tuesday plenary, preparatory to today’s screening exercise.

Ogun State Government has indicated its readiness to work with the Nigerian navy, to secure Tongeji Island, near Ipokia, from encroachment by Benin republic.

Governor Dapo Abiodun says the security of the oil rich island is a front burner project of his administration.

Abiodun spoke on the issue, while receiving the flag officer commanding western naval command, rear admiral Mohammed Abdullahi, at the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The governor thanked the navy for deploying its assets to the island, to provide security and give communities in the area, a sense of belonging to Nigeria.

He promised support for the navy, in securing the island, blessed with abundant mineral and natural resources, which his administration plans to exploit with partners.

The governor said he would constitute a team to work with the navy, to provide a jetty in the island, to increase the military presence in the area, adding that he look forward to visiting the island with the Naval Chief.

Earlier, the naval commander had asked the state government to address the plight of residents on the island to end their neglect.

Already, he said the navy had built a jetty for the berthing of its vessels on the island, while seeking assistance in constructing staff quarters in the naval school in the area.
