IBEDC Explains Why Consumers in Ogun Are Facing Epileptic Power Supply

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has explained why consumers in Ogun state and its franchise areas, are facing epileptic supply of power in the past months.

It blamed the poor power supply on the vandalization of its facilities, stealing of electricity and low power supply from generating plants.

The company lead, media relations, Mrs. Busolami Tunwase, in a statement on other states in the ibed’ent issued on Sunday, said they are responsible for the poor supply to Ogun and other states in the IBEDC’s areas of operation.

Tunwase also said 1,450 cases of energy theft were recorded in January and February 2024, through the stealing of transformer oil, and illegal connection of electricity.

She listed other form of energy theft as bypassing of meter by consumers as well as illegal meter installation.

Last week, Power Minister, Dr. Adebayo Adelabu, summoned the chief executive officer of the company over the poor supply of power in the states the company is covering.

Following the meeting, the minister had threatened the revocation of the operating license of discos whose performances were below expectation.

Tunwase listed other factors that militate against an adequate supply of power, including a low supply of gas to Generating Companies (Gencos), as well as payment apathy by customers.

She said all of these had significantly reduced the power available on the transmission grid for onward supply to IBEDC.

According to her, this in turn greatly hindered the ability to provide power to customers within its franchise, which are Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara, and partly, Kogi, Niger, Ekiti states.
