House Of Representatives To Probe Alleged Manipulation Of JAMB Results By Ejike Mmesomma

House of Representatives has resolved to probe the alleged manipulation of results of the 2023/2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by a candidate, Ejike Mmesomma

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) had accused the candidate, who claimed she scored the highest mark of 362 in the examination, of manipulating the results.

The house, adopting a motion raised by Awaji-Inombek Ibianta, sets up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the JAMB allegation and falsification of other results.

It also asks JAMB to lift its three year ban on the candidate.

The ADHOC committee was directed to probe JAMB facilities to prevent reoccurence of results manipulation, and the issue of special centres.

The House said it was cognizant of the fact that uploading or downloading results of examinations or polls electronically, in Nigeria, glitches can occur at any time, hence the need to establish the facts before any blames.

It expressed worry that JAMB Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, alleged thus:

some of the 2023 UTME candidates are parading fake scores in order to get an undue advantage from the public, hence the need to investigate the allegation.

The House noted that (JAMB is primarily charged with the general control of the conduct of matriculation examinations for admissions into Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

It also noted that graduating Secondary School leavers and others with prerequisite WAEC, NECO and other qualifying results apply to sit for the UTME through JAMB every year to gain admission into Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.

The House further noted that students who sat for the UTME are expected to log into the JAMB portal to check their results once released by JAMB.
