FRSC Issues Travel Advisory to Motorists in Ogun, Ahead Of Rainy Season, To Reduce Auto Crashes

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has asked motorists plying roads in Ogun state to change the bad and expired tires of their vehicles as the rainy season approaches.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Ugah said, the advice was issued to reduce avoidable auto crashes during the rainy season.

Ugah in an interview on Sunday, also urged motorists to reduce their speed during the period.

According to the FRSC commander, the rainy season poses dangers to motorists which could lead to the loss of lives while driving if care was not taken to prevent them.

Already, he said the state FRSC command had embarked on special campaign against speeding to prevent avoidable auto crashes during the rainy season in the state.

Sokunbi said that motorists must ensure that their wipers and lightening systems were working optimally in rainy season.

He emphasised that functional air conditioner also helped motorists to increase visibility especially during rainfalls.

If you have no functional air conditioner in your vehicle, due to fog on the windsreen during rainfall, you can park and wait for the rain to subside for clear visibility before moving ahead, he said.

He also advised motorists on the need to have good tyres, with good grip on the road for good friction, to help the brake system during rainfalls.

Sokunbi, who is also the Corps Commander of FRSC Enugu State Command, urged motorists to aim for safety during the rainy season, by avoiding flooded roads, especailly unfamiliar roads.

It is better and wise you park your vehicle when the road is flooded until the flood subsides, you can continue your journey.

This also applies if the rain is coming with serious wind and thunder storm activities. Safety first is the watchword, he said.
